Project Description

Habitat restoration is an increasingly required tool for sustaining caribou and other threatened species in areas of industrial development in Canada's boreal forest. A large multi-year silvicultural habitat restoration experiment in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range in Alberta, led by Cenovus Energy, Wildlife Infometrics Ltd, and Woodlands North is monitoring behavioral and population effects on ungulates (moose, caribou) and predators (wolves, bears). Cortex helped design the experiment, and is assisting with field studies, statistical analyses of movements, kill-sites, and population density metrics in relation to habitat attributes.
