Tolko manages approximately 600,000 hectares of Crown land in British Columbia under an Innovative Forest Practices Agreement (IFPA).

The IFPA agreement allows holders to apply for increases in harvest (an uplift) through the demonstration of innovative forest practices. Tolko approached Cortex to use forest estate modeling to demonstrate innovative forest practices.

Services: 

• Development of a forest estate model using existing GIS data
• Growth and yield analysis in support of modeling
• Definition and execution of the scenario analysis
• Reporting of results to the client, government stakeholders, and statutory decision makers

Outcomes: 

• Quantification of a potential uplift that would increase IFPA land base profits by 4%
• Development of a communication portal used to provide background material, results, and GIS information used in the analysis
• Approval of the IFPA uplift
